Teacher Taster Open Day
Our next Teacher Taster Open Day is Tuesday 29th March 2022 9am – 2pm
For anyone thinking of training to be a teacher and particularly by School Direct – this is an excellent opportunity to find out more about the training year.
The day will comprise of a tour of the school with pupils, a presentation by the school training managers on the training year, funding and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions. You will observe two lessons in your subject. The final session will be to have lunch with the training managers, current trainees at the school and some members of staff who have been trained via School Direct.
For September 2022 we have full placements for teaching; maths, English, modern languages, physics, chemistry, history, geography computing and design technology. We also offer part-time placements in English, maths, physics, chemistry, biology, and computing.
If you wish to come to the open day please download the application form from the school website, complete it and send it to schooldirect@balcarras.gloucs.sch.uk by March 25th.
As a Teaching School Hub we would like to increase participation with ITT across the county.
We would welcome schools being able to offer placement for trainee teachers and in particular from primary schools.
We are working with a number of providers offering primary training, they are Marling School via CETA, Cotswold School and University of Gloucestershire. These providers also offer secondary training as well as GITEP.
There are many benefits to having a trainee in the school as they can be utilised in many ways as well as being trained in teaching practice such as additional pupil support and extra-curricular activities. It is also excellent CPD for teachers currently in your school when they act as mentors for trainees. This is evident when giving feedback on lessons and using expertise to develop strategies to help the trainee make improvements. There are also opportunities for CPD when delivering the many aspects of the CCF.
We are aware however, that there are often capacity issues in primary schools to enable mentors to meet with trainees. We would welcome feedback about these issues and what could be done to support and increase in capacity.
