Module 8 & 9 Information
Module 8
This year, ECT2’s have been working with their mentors, facilitators and cluster groups on undertaking various practitioner inquiries. Practitioner inquiries are grounded in classroom practice. This means that the innovations and evidence collection that they involve mainly take place while the ECT is teaching. However, for their final task this year ECT2s are required to present the findings of their module 8 inquiry in the weeks 15th – 26th May. This presentation should be delivered to more than their mentor and therefore we suggest some of the following ways that this can be achieved:
- Create a resource. ECTs could write a blog or short article or create an A3 poster that could be shared amongst staff, trainees or other ECTs.
- A presentation. ECTs could prepare a short verbal or PowerPoint presentation to either their department, small group of colleagues or ECT1’s in the school.
Please ensure that ECT’2s are supported in this and they are aware of how and when they will be expected to present this information.
Summer weeks (Term 5)
Between Easter and May half term, ECT2’s have a break from their module work and undertake what is called ‘summer week’ for 5 weeks. During this time they continue with fortnightly mentor meetings and self-directed study via UCLExtend but in addition they will work on their presentations and deliver them, as detailed above.
Module 9 (Term 6)
There are no face-to-face training sessions for ECT2’s in module 9 as these are replaced by school visits. These visits are compulsory, and it is up to ECT2’s to organise these visits. However, they will need the support of the school, mentor and induction tutor to do this. Please see information of these visits below:
- Two school visits are scheduled to take place in Summer of Year 2 of the programme (weeks 33 and 36).
- There are 2 hours scheduled for each school visit, with a focus on developing knowledge and/or practice in relation to the ECF.
- Reasons for selecting a school to visit could be:
- A contrasting setting
- Different type of educational establishment
- Same specialism/same phase
It may not be feasible in every circumstance to visit another school, particularly if there are site access or transport issues to contend with. In this case, please could you contact us and we will work with you ECTs to come up with a suitable option.
Mentor OCL3
The next round of mentor training is being hosted by webinar on the following dates. Mentors will only be required to attend one session for year or the years they are mentoring in. Induction Tutors are welcome to attend too. A booking form and Zoom link will be sent out closer to the time.
ECT1 – Wednesday 14th June 4-5pm or Thursday 15th June 4pm-5pm
ECT2 – Tuesday 20th June 4pm-5pm, or Wednesday 21st June 4pm-5pm
AB requirements for ECT2 (Balcarras and Odyssey AB).
Please can we remind Induction Tutors that most of the full time ECTs are coming towards the end of their statutory induction. There is a progress review to be completed before easter, and then a final assessment in June. We will use the progress reviews to pick up any potential issues with ECTs likely to not pass induction. However, if you have any concerns that may not be clear from the progress review please do get in touch with your AB so that we can add support.
