Appropriate Body (AB) Services
All schools that employ an Early Career Teacher (ECT) offering statutory induction must register their ECT with an Appropriate Body (AB).
This is separate to and independent of any Early Career Training Programme which the ECT is required to complete.
Role of an Appropriate Body
The Appropriate Body has two key roles in supporting Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE) over the two-year induction period:
- Monitoring to ensure ECT support and statutory entitlements are in place
- Monitoring assessment to ensure ECTs are fairly and consistently assessed
An Appropriate Body makes the final decision, based on the Headteacher’s recommendation, as to whether an ECT has satisfactorily met the DfE Teachers’ Standards.
